Under the old floor at The Sign Studio in Penrose was a concrete slab nobody had seen in years.
Tiles come up reasonably easily. The adhesive holding them down is the part that takes the time, and it has to come off completely. Adhesive isn't concrete, so it can't be ground and polished like the slab can, and anything left behind stays visible in the finished floor. That removal work was the bulk of this job.
Once the slab was back to bare concrete, we ground it flat and worked it up through the polishing stages to a smooth, hard-wearing finish. The shine you can see in the photos is the concrete itself. There's no coating on it, because with a polished floor the finish is the floor.
What The Sign Studio ended up with is a clean, modern commercial floor that was already there, underneath the tiles, the whole time. It handles daily use in a working commercial space, cleans with a mop, and there's nothing sitting on the surface to peel or wear through.
